Marriage in the Parish of Lisdoonvarna - Kilshanny

Serving the Churches of Corpus Christi at Lisdoonvama, St. Augustine at Kilshanny, Holy Rosary at Doolin and Our Lady of Lourdes at Toovahera

Congratulations on your Forthcoming marriage!

If you choose the Parish of Lisdoonvama - Kilshanny, we will do all in our power to make the church ceremony memorable and enjoyable for you both and for your guests on the day.

Please read the following carefully: It will help you to prepare for the big day.

Readings:

Please ensure that all the readings you choose are from Sacred Scripture, i.e. from any part of the Bible. There are books available from religious bookshops which give good choices for the marriage ceremony.

Music:

The music chosen should suit the dignity of the occasion. If there is a Mass as part of the celebration, naturally the music chosen should be appropriate for Mass. There are many beautiful songs which are very suitable to a hotel reception but not to a Church ceremony. Your priest will advise you in this regard.

Photography:

You and your marriage ceremony are the important elements of the day. Please instruct any photographer not to intrude upon the sacredness of that ceremony. In particular, a photographer should at no time go up onto the altar level. Please make that clear to your photographer. Please ensure too that the photographer does not delay the proceedings unnecessarily.

Forms and Formalities:

Naturally there are some formalities to be observed beforehand. Please understand these are so that it can be established without doubt that both partners are free to marry.

At lease three months' notice must be given to one of the priests of your parish. In addition, the following papers and forms are needed:

·         A recent Baptismal certificate (from the church in question) issued within six months of the date of marriage.

·         A Confirmation Certificate (from the church in question).

·         A Certificate of your pre-marriage course, e.g. Accord, Ennis, Tel. No. 1850 585000. For inter-faith marriages, a special pre-marriage course run by Embrace Interchurch Marriage is held in Dublin. For information and booking, please telephone 01- 4784400. Website: www.dublin.accord.ie

·         A Letter of Freedom from any parish in which you lived for more than six months after the age of 16 years. Your priest will again advise you on this.

·         A Pre-Nuptial Enquiry form (filled up by your own parish priest).

·         Dispensations may be needed. Your priest will see if they are required.

Weddings of our parishioners

Naturally, there is no fee for the use of our Churches for our own parishioners, though a donation is usually offered which goes into parish funds. The priest in charge in our parish will do his best to be available to preside at your wedding.

Weddings of non-parishioners

A minimum donation of €500 applies to couples from outside the parish who wish to have their wedding here. This is to cover costs of Church upkeep, insurance and secretarial and archival expenses. This donation is to accompany the booking request. Such couples should also invite their own priest to preside at the wedding, and a copy of this priest's 'Letter of Good Standing' should also accompany the booking request.
