Bishop Martin Drennan of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora welcomes the ordination of a new priest.
Bishop Drennan will ordain Patrick O'Donohue to the priesthood on Sunday, June 6th in his home parish of Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. Speaking about the upcoming reason to celebrate and give thanks, Bishop Drennan said:
"Sunday will be a day of great joy for the diocese as well as for the parish of Lisdoonvarna, for Patrick's parents, Pat and Frances, for his family and his friends.
Every gift of God brings joy to the whole Church. We thank God for the gift of this new priest to the diocese. God's goodness to us gives us hope.
To people of faith, the ordination of a new priest is always a joy. At this time, as we search for pathways to renewal in the Church, Patrick's ordination is a great boost to our morale. We welcome the vision, the enthusiasm and the perspective which a young priest brings to our search. Patrick's presence will enrich us in many ways. His ordination is truly a blessing for the whole diocese.
On Sunday, Patrick will be remembered at Mass in every parish and in every church in the diocese. Our prayer is that Patrick will be the priest that the Lord wants him to be. By word and example, he will lead to God all those he is called to serve. As a diocese, we welcome him wholeheartedly and wish him great joy in his ministry."
